Art

At Barnston Primary School

Art and Design lessons foster creativity and imagination!

Through a comprehensive curriculum that engages and challenges students, pupils explore diverse artists and techniques, focusing on a variety of mediums such as drawing, painting, textiles, sculpture, and digital media. Our curriculum emphasises hands-on learning, critical thinking, and the historical and cultural significance of art. We make cross-curricular links when possible, integrating projects with subjects like maths, history, science, and geography, to provide a holistic educational experience. We ensure skill progression from Early Years to Year 6, and children are provided with A3 sketchbooks that follow them through their school years so they can reflect on and evaluate their progress. Inclusive teaching practices ensure that all students, including those with special educational needs, can participate and thrive in our vibrant, creative learning environment and are given all the necessary support to access the curriculum.
