Assessment Without Levels
Download the Powerpoint below to understand assessment as reported to you on your child’s report and do ask the school for an explanation if you couldn’t make the meetings in the autumn term 2022. Additional information will be given to parents at the year group transition meetings F2 to Y1, Y2 to Y3 and Y4 to Y5. The National Curriculum expectations are much higher in every year group since 2014 and it is important to understand EYFS, KS1 and KS2 outcomes and how KS2 ‘zips’ into KS3 and KS4 in all High Schools. If the children develop gaps in their learning in any of these stages, they will find KS3 and KS4 much more difficult and so it is our duty as teachers to carry out interventions as soon as possible, in order that gaps in knowledge do not grow - parents sometimes panic about the word intervention, but it just means your child is being helped to stay on track in all subject areas.
SATs tests are government tests and are statutory at the end of KS1 and KS2, the 11+ test is a selective test and is not part of the National Curriculum and so is not taught in primary schools - this is parental choice and is a test for selection, not a curriculum.
