Personal, Social, Health & Economic
Personal, Social, Health and Economic education is called
Learning for Life in Barnston Primary School!
Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education is an important and necessary part of all pupils' education. The Learning opportunities are spread across three core themes: Relationships, Health and Wellbeing and Living in the Wider World. At Barnston Primary School, we follow the ‘SCARF’ scheme of work. This curriculum supports preparing children with vital life skills across these three areas.
Relationships education is statutory. However, the sex element of relationships education is not statutory in primary school. At Barnston, we believe that this element prepares children for KS3, but it is only taught to children where parents wish them to take part. The curriculum materials are available for parents to see and are sent out before the lessons take place. Parent consent is also required for a child to take part in this learning.
To support this whole-school approach to develop children’s health and wellbeing, we follow the MyHappyMind programme. This programme was created for schools with a very important mission – to give the children of today the skills to thrive in tomorrow’s world. Through the programme, we teach the children preventative habits that support mental health, resilience and self-esteem.
At Barnston, we believe that the Learning for Life and MyHappyMind curriculum is such an important part of a child’s learning journey and equips them with the skills and knowledge to navigate life as they grow and develop.
