Religious Education

At Barnston, we recognise

The importance of Religion and Worldviews (RW)

It helps children gain a broader understanding of different views and beliefs, improves their knowledge of current global affairs and promotes tolerance and mutual respect in a diverse society, challenging prejudice and stereotypes. Together, through the teaching and learning of Religion and Worldviews, children can learn how to contribute to and build a more cohesive community where they develop as responsible citizens of the ever-changing modern world. RW has a significant role in the promotion of spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Lessons, which are delivered in an enthusiastic and creative way, provoke questions on the meaning and purpose of life and are personally enriching as they provide a safe space for children to be reflective. As children investigate and reflect on some of the ‘big questions’ asked by people, they are able to evaluate their own and others’ views, whilst being respectful and celebrating differences. We recognise that whilst not everyone defines themselves as religious, everyone has a worldview, as it is a person’s way of understanding, experiencing and responding to the world.
